What is an Affiliate Network?
An affiliate network is a platform where merchants can create and manage affiliate marketing programs, and where affiliates can find and join those programs. An affiliate network provides affiliates with the tools they need to promote merchants’ products and services, and allows merchants to track the performance of their affiliate programs.
In layman terms, affiliate network is the manager between both affiliate marketers and brands.
Types of Affiliate Networks
There are four main types of affiliate networks: pay-per-sale, pay-per-lead, pay-per-click, and Cost-per-Action (CPA) networks.
1. Pay-Per-Sale Networks
Pay-Per-Sale networks pay affiliates a commission for each sale they generate. The advantage of this type of network is that it offers the potential for high commissions. However, the downside is that it can take a long time to generate enough sales to reach the minimum payout amount.
2. Pay-Per-Lead Networks
Pay-Per-Lead networks pay affiliates a commission for each lead they generate. The advantage of this type of network is that it offers a lower barrier to entry than Pay-Per-Sale networks. However, the downside is that the commissions are usually lower.
3. Pay-Per-Click Networks
Pay-Per-Click networks pay affiliates a commission for each click they generate. The advantage of this type of network is that it offers a low barrier to entry and the potential for high commissions. However, the downside is that it can be difficult to generate a lot of clicks.
4. Cost-Per-Action Networks
Cost-Per-Action networks pay affiliates a commission for each action they generate. The advantage of this type of network is that it offers a low barrier to entry and the potential for high commissions. However, the downside is that it can be difficult to generate a lot of action.
How to create an Affiliate Network?
There are various ways one can start and establish a new affiliate network. It will depend on the market one is trying to aim and the products they want to promote online.
However, there are some basic steps that all affiliate networks should follow, including:
- Define the products or services being offered.
- Identify the target market for these products or services.
- Create a website or landing page to promote the products or services.
- Recruit affiliates to join the network and promote the products or services.
- Monitor the performance of the affiliates and the overall network.
- Make changes to the network as needed to improve performance.
Generally, a lot of changes would happen in the tracking technologies and the payouts companies will produce. That means, a lot of on the go changes will help the affiliate networks to keep improving and growing. Affiliate networks also need to work on the retention of the affiliates and the brand on the platform, that is the only way new audience would join the network and the network will scale up.
